Hart Freeland Roberts-Healthcare Facility Planning Internship (see below)
Location: Nashville, TN
HFR is a nationwide company that offers a wide-variety of services to our clients including architecture, engineering, healthcare facility planning, interior design, survey, and project management. Facility planners serve as the experts on the flow and function of the healthcare facility.  We envision the “big picture” and hand over our recommendations to the architects and engineers to design and build.  Good client interaction is vital to the planning process!  We are not just concerned about room sizes and location, but about the needs of the hospital.
At HFR, our success thrives on the creative initiative of our professional staff.  With this in mind, we expect students to come on board with their own thoughts and ideas on what their project will entail. Though we fully intend to provide adequate training and supervision on the multiple aspects of healthcare planning, we do not plan to just “hand out” an assignment to the student.  The success of this internship will rest upon the student’s ability to work well independently and as a team player.
General Requirements:

  • Good communication and people skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • Work at least 40 hours/week for a summer internship or at least 12 hours/week for a semester internship (times are negotiable depending on class schedules, school commitments, etc.).

  • Willingness to travel (only if necessary)

Upon completion of internship, student will:

  • Turn in a final report to supervisor summarizing project work

  • Give a final oral presentation to the HFR Healthcare Division which summarizes key points on his/her project and briefly describes the knowledge gained from the experience.

We will informally interview each prospective to give them a better understanding of the healthcare planning process, but also to get a better idea of the student’s interests and goals.  Interested students can contact:

Hart, Freeland, Roberts: Internship Program:

Recently, members of the HFR Healthcare Planning Department met with Dr. Paul King and Dr. Tom Harris to discuss a partnership between our company and Vanderbilt BME Dept.  During our conversation, we discussed the BME 273 Design Project that is required for senior BME students.  As the fall semester is rapidly approaching, we decided to instead become a sponsor for this project, which would involve a group of senior students working on a design project with HFR.  In lieu of this, we will delay the original 12-week internship until summer 2007.  We will keep the resumes of those students who have already contacted us on file until we start the application/interviewing process in spring 2007.  If any rising seniors are interested in working with HFR for their senior design project, please contact Dr. King for further details.  If any students are interested in the internship, please contact Susan Perlman for further details.  Thank you for your interest and we will keep you updated during the school year.
